General, in charge of the Cheyenne Mountain Complex one year prior to the S.G.C.'s inception. West was skeptical regarding travel through the Stargate, having examined the recovery of one of Ra's Jaffa, therefore fully aware of the danger. After Dr. Daniel Jackson assured him that return travel would be possible, he consented to allow Colonel Jack O'Neill to lead a team through the gate.
