“This particular episode I’m talking about would not be backstory,” Flanigan said. “It will have a lot to do with the fact that in order to return Atlantis to its full glory and keep a wormhole open back to Earth, they need these ‘ZPMs.’ It has a lot to do with what will allow us to find these ZPMs in the Pegasus Galaxy.”
Flanigan plans to write the script during the off-season. Filming on Season Two begins late next month.
This may be the actor’s first script for Atlantis, but it’s not his first conversation with the writing staff. “I suggest things all the time!,” he laughed. “It’s more of a question of ‘How do we get Joe to shut up?’ I suggest stuff and they’re great. They either say that they think it’s a great idea or that it’s a horrible idea. Nobody minces any words, and we go about either integrating it into the character or we don’t.
“It’s a nice relationship, they’re very receptive. We’ve come up with some great ideas together.”
Look for Flanigan’s complete interview in Issue #2 (January / February 2005) of Stargate SG-1: The Official Magazine, now on newsstands in the U.S. and U.K. In the States, check bookstores like Borders and Barnes & Noble. The third issue of The Official Magazine is due on newsstands on February 24, including interviews with Christopher Judge (“Teal’c”) and executive producer Brad Wright.
All-new episodes of Stargate Atlantis resume Friday, January 21 at a new time — 9 p.m. Eastern/Pacific — on The SCI FI Channel!
