Galactica was the top-rated show on cable for the evening in several key demographics, including viewers 25 to 54, viewers 18 to 49, men 18-34, men 18-49, and men 25-54. The premiere was the highest-rated first quarter (January through March) event in SCI FI’s history, and its second-highest rated series premiere. Only the July 2004 premiere of Stargate Atlantis scored higher (a 3.2 rating).
Battlestar Galactica co-stars Edward James Olmos, Jamie Bamber, Katee Sackhoff, and Mary McDonnell in a gritty, character-driven reimagining of the original 1970s television series. Filming in Vancouver, B.C., it also co-stars some familiar Stargate faces, including Grace Park (“Lt. Satterfield” in Season Five’s “Proving Ground”), Tahmoh Penikett (“Third” in Season Six’s “Unnatural Selection”), Alessandro Juliani (“Eliam” in Season Four’s Scorched Earth”), and Matthew Bennett (“Jared Kane” in Season Eight’s “Icon,” and one of Tanner’s men in “Point of No Return”).
This week’s episode guest stars Richard Hatch — “Apollo” from the original series — as well as SG-1‘s “Major Ferretti,” Brent Stait.
The show moves to its regular timeslot of 10 p.m. Eastern/Pacific this Friday, January 21, when it paired with new episodes of Stargate SG-1 (8 p.m.) and Stargate Atlantis (9 p.m.)!
