Beware of spoilers in the report below!
As revealed in “The Brotherhood,” the Wraith are nearing Atlantis. Three massive hive ships are on approach to the planet, and the expedition from Earth has few options. The advanced Ancient city and the Stargate capable of dialing back to Earth cannot be allowed to fall into the hands of the Wraith. They can either fight, or evacuate and destroy the city. They prepare for both.
The team searches the Ancient database for a possible new Alpha Site, while Dr. Zelenka considers their ability to destroy the city — and it’s looking to be impossible. He also creates a computer virus to wipe out the Ancient database, while trying to save as much as he can to take with them. Meanwhile, Sergeant Bates continues to voice his distrust of Teyla, especially after learning that she possesses Wraith DNA and can be telepathically manipulated by them (“The Gift”).
Drs. McKay and Grodin head to the weapons platform located several hours away in the Atlantis solar system, hoping to reactivate it before the hive ships arrive. They power it with a naquadah generator, but one of them must go outside to repair damage — apparently from a previous battle. McKay draws the short straw.
The dispute between Bates and Teyla comes to blows, and later the Sergeant is found unconscious. He was attacked and his injuries are extensive, leaving him comatose. Teyla is questioned, but is soon freed from suspicion when Dr. Beckett finds Wraith DNA on Bates. There is a Wraith already in the city! Sheppard leads a team to apprehend the creature.
“The Siege, Part 1” will bring a small victory, the loss of one of the crew, and the Wraith fleet ever closer to the legendary yet defenseless city of Atlantis.
