Stargate Atlantis director David Winning was awarded the 2005 Bronze WorldMedal in the New York Festivals’s 2005 International Television Awards last week, for his work on the Season One episode “Childhood’s End.” The 48-year-old annual awards recognize excellence in news, documentary, information and entertainment programming, and other categories.
It is the first episode in the Stargate franchise to be helmed by Winning, a veteran director of such series as Andromeda, Dinotopia, and Earth: Final Conflict.
Written by Martin Gero, “Childhood’s End” tells the story of a village of children who believe the life-sucking Wraith are kept away by their ritual of committing suicide upon reaching the age of 25. The episode premiered on The SCI FI Channel in August, 2004.
