Beware of significant spoilers in the report below!
Daniel is saddened by the news that Dr. Catherine Langford, matriarch of the Stargate program, has passed away. He speaks at her funeral where, among an assembly of global archaeologists and researchers, he meets Sabrina, Catherine’s niece. She returns the Ra medallion (“Stargate” the movie), and informs Dr. Jackson that her aunt had other artifacts she wanted him to have.
Dr. Langford’s large collection of ancient artifacts arrives at the S.G.C., and Daniel begins to pour through it. He discovers a book once belonging to Ra — the “Supreme System Lord” who first found Earth for the Goa’uld many thousands of years ago (“Stargate” the movie). The book references a device called the “Heart of Light,” which Daniel believes to be a Zero Point Module, the much-needed Ancient power source. Such a device could power the Ancient defense outpost in Antarctica, allow the S.G.C. to dial to Atlantis in the Pegasus Galaxy, or even power the new Daedalus space vessel.
Carter reports that satellite scans failed to locate the Z.P.M. in present-day Egypt; it’s either gone or depleted. The time ship recently recovered by SG-1 (“It’s Good To Be King”), however, provides other options. With Jack in command of the mission (and needed to pilot the Ancient ship), SG-1 takes the ship 5,000 years into Earth’s past — during Ra’s reign in ancient Egypt!
The team cloaks the time ship and, dressed as ancient Egyptian natives, infiltrate Ra’s palace. Jack suggests killing the Goa’uld enslaver now so he won’t have to in 5,000 years, but Colonel Carter is insistant that they must be strictly careful to not change anything: The effects on our own past and present could be incalculable. Teal’c disguises himself with Horus guard armor to move freely about the palace, finally locating and stealing the Z.P.M. But when SG-1 returns to the time ship, they find that it has been discovered by the Jaffa.
With no way home, the team must decide whether to affect history and try to take the ship by force, stay and join in the rebellion that will kick Ra off Earth, or something else. Jackson suggests hiding the Z.P.M. where it can be recovered in the future, preventing the need for SG-1’s mission in the first place. But as the altered present day soon bears out, things are very different because of SG-1’s actions — and there is no Stargate Command.
Major Davis (Colin Cunningham) will also appear in the episode, as will Major Samuels (Robert Wisden) — the latter not seen since the Season Two premiere, “The Serpent’s Lair.” Don S. Davis reprises his role as General Hammond, and David Hewlett appears as the alternate timeline’s Dr. Rodney McKay.
