its second season.
With SG-1 now entering its ninth year, viewers will be introduced to multiple changes — most noteably a largely new main cast of characters.
“Season Nine is cooler than ever,” Shea told GateWorld. “We’ve done a huge ‘burn;’ we’re doing a huge car hit; we’re smashing people off windshields; we’re doing six Jaffa being ratcheted straight up into the air out at the Richmond sand dunes, so this year especially it seems like every episode there’s a feature-length stunt or gag in it.
“We’re just having a great time doing it,” he says. “Getting on camera, getting shot and blown up and thrown against walls … it’s cool.”
With former series lead Richard Dean Anderson having departed the show, SG-1 will once again be free to embark to other worlds at a story’s notice. With all the travel, Shea is busier than ever.
“[It’s] keeping me very busy,” he said. “Last year was busy, but a lot of it was on stage because Rick was there shooting. But now they’re going back into the wilderness again, back into the sand dunes, back into the woods, and all over the place. We’re having a great time.”
With two new permanent characters and two new guest starring characters, Shea is pleased with what he has seen so far. “[They’re] great,” he says. “Ben [Browder]’s great. Claudia [Black]’s actually really, really funny. Her and [Michael] Shanks have got great chemistry. And Beau Bridges — he’s unbelieveable. And Lou [Gosset] is hilarious.”
Stargate SG-1‘s ninth season starts July 15 on SCI FI.
