After hearing the early details regarding “Prototype,” GateWorld immediately contacted actor David Palffy (Anubis, Sokar) to verify whether not he had heard any news about the arrival of a “cloned” Anubis in the upcoming story. His immediate reply: “You betcha, baby!”
Before “Reckoning, Part 1” had aired, some fans felt Palffy got shafted from playing the role. However, the episode gave good reasons for why the character’s face had to have changed since Palffy’s last appearance as the evil Goa’uld lord in the Season Seven finale. Will David now be returning to the set to play Khalek, the Anubis clone?
“It’s interesting because just as we are talking there are auditions going on at this moment in Vancouver, L.A., and New York to find this individual,” Palffy told GateWorld. “It is highly unlikely that it will be me, unless things change in the next couple of days. It would make for a rather interesting [situation].
“The face of Stargate is having a rebirth because you’ve got Beau Bridges, Lou Gossett. You’ve got some other actors in there who will change the face of it. As I understand they’re looking for a bit of a ‘name’ for this other character.”
Palffy confirmed GateWorld’s earlier spoiler report on the upcoming episode as well. “Anubis has had something to do with this individual, as a creator, in that kind of sense,” he said. “It will be very interesting. This new character … it’s a very interesting storyline. I think it will entice a lot of people. I don’t know that much about the storyline, what they’re going to develop.
“Of course, if I get too specific I know I’ll probably get into trouble. Basically, as far as anything to do with the Replicators, Anubis [himself] is pretty well done,” as Oma Desala intends to occupy the Goa’uld for the rest of eternity. However, David added, “He’s very persistant!”
“In the breakdowns they’re looking for a so-called ‘name,'” he says. “That’s what the breakdown said. But it’s rather interesting that you call just as I’ve been in discussion early today about it.”
For fans who wish to see Palffy return to play the clone’s character, the actor encourages GateWorld readers to speak up! “That’s what you should do!” he said. “You’ve just got to put it on there, get it to the people out there to make some bold suggestions. It’s funny, Anubis’s face has never been [truly] seen. That whole thing with what happened last year as far as his face being exposed just briefly — but you just never know.
“With these things you can’t hold your breath. They have their ideas for what and why and that kind of stuff. I have had a good run with this show and I’ve enjoyed being a part, and whatever happens, happens.”
“Prototype” will go before cameras next week, and will likely air this September in the U.S. Visit GateWorld’s Season Nine episode guide for more details on the story!
