SG-1 finds a ‘Prototype’ in upcoming episode

GateWorld has received plot details on “Prototype,” a brand new episode of Stargate SG-1. Written by newcomer Alan McCullough and directed by Will Waring, “Prototype” will go before cameras in mid-June.

The episode will also see the return of Robert Picardo as N.I.D. Agent Richard Woolsey according to a working draft of the script — though the actor’s casting in the episode has not yet been confirmed.

Beware of spoilers in the report below.

SG-1 finds a man in stasis in a Goa’uld laboratory on another world, and return him to Earth for study. He is revived, and the team learns that his name is Khalek. They also discover that Khalek is a genetically advanced human — so advanced that Daniel speculates that the only thing preventing him from ascending to a higher plane of existence (a la the Ancients) is that he doesn’t yet know how to.

But Khalek is also a great danger because of his knowledge and his abilities. He was, in fact, grown in the lab by Anubis himself — from Anubis’s own DNA. He is a Goa’uld-human hybrid (a la Anna/Sekhmet in “Resurrection,” but without the split personality), a reincarnation of Anubis in some sense, and he possesses the half-ascended Goa’uld’s genetic memory (including a memory of Anubis’s confrontation with Daniel Jackson in Season Six’s “Full Circle”).

Khalek considers Anubis his father. He is in some ways like a child, with the memories of Goa’uld atrocities fresh in his mind and a curiosity of what it really feels like to be worshipped, and to kill. Daniel fears that if Khalek learns to ascend they may have another Anubis on their hands, and suggests to General Landry that it may be too dangerous to keep him alive. But N.I.D. Agent Richard Woolsey arrives to inform Landry that the international committee now overseeing Stargate Command believes Khalek should be kept alive and studied.

But as Khalek and Daniel square off with only a pane of glass between them, Khalek promises to Daniel that one of them will feel the pleasure of killing the other.

Meanwhile, Teal’c and Colonel Mitchell once again visit the Jaffa homeworld of Dakara. There they meet So’kresh, a Jaffa who once served in Anubis’s army. He informs them that Anubis was rumored to be creating an army of warriors — the Mashur — not to replace the Kull warriors or the Jaffa, but to ascend to the realm of the Ancients and destroy them.

“Prototype” will likely air early in the second half of Season Nine, which is expected to begin in January on The SCI FI Channel in the U.S. Stay tuned to GateWorld for more!
