SG-1 finds King Arthur’s legendary ‘Camelot’

The first details have arrived at GateWorld for “Camelot,” the Season Nine finale of Stargate SG-1! Written by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie and directed by Martin Wood, the episode will dive deep into the Arthurian mythology first introduced in the season premiere.

Beware of spoilers in the report below!

SG-1 visits an alien world where a village of people live by the English legend of King Arthur. The team is seeking an Ancient weapon once in the possession of the mythical wizard Merlin, who they now know was one of the Ancients who returned to Earth from Atlantis 10,000 years ago (“Avalon, Part 1”). The village is called Camelot, and its people believe it to be the once and future home of King Arthur, who will return to reclaim his throne after finding the “Sangraal” — the Holy Grail.

There SG-1 seeks the help of Antonius, the local village historian who is an expert on Arthurian legend. Antonius is reluctant to lead Colonel Mitchell and Dr. Jackson to Merlin’s library, which is sealed and believed to be cursed, under guard from the black knight. Many among them believe that Merlin was a wizard of darkness; his name is rarely mentioned publically. According to Antonius, Merlin was born as a result of a union between a human and a demon.

At Camelot the team also meets with Meurik, the village governor, and with Valencia, a 16-year-old girl who is something of a swordsman. But she has no aspirations to follow that path, believing it is for the young boys to prepare themselves for knighthood.

SG-1 convinces Antonius to let them into Merlin’s library, assuring him that they’ve defeated Merlin’s knights before — and tempting him with the volumes and volumes of history that no doubt lay inside. What they find is just that — walls and walls of great interest to a historian, but apparently no advanced technology.

But when Mitchell stumbles upon a hidden chamber, Antonius takes his leave, believing they have tempted fate enough already. Inside the team finds an Ancient control panel.

Will the team find the weapon they are seeking — and can it help them in the immanent war with the Ori? And what will become of the village of Camelot when the black knight is released?

Guest characters include Meurik, Valencia, and Antonius. “Camelot” will go before cameras in late September and early October, before the series’ ninth season wraps up principal photography next month. It is expected to air in late March on The SCI FI Channel in the U.S.
