Tomita, 39, will likely play the part of Shen Xiaoyi, a representative from China who joins a tour of an off-world base along with SG-1 and other foreign ambassadors.
The Okinawa, Japan-born actress has appeared in such films as “The Joy Luck Club,” “The Day After Tomorrow,” and “The Karate Kid, Part II.” On TV she was a regular on The Burning Zone (“Dr. Kimberly Shiroma”), and played first officer Laurel Takashima on the Babylon 5 pilot “The Gathering.”
She has played recurring characters on JAG, Crossing Jordan, and 24, and has also made guest appearances in such series as The Shield, Will & Grace, Seven Days, Chicago Hope, and others.
In 1991 she was named one of the 50 “Most Beautiful People” by People magazine.
