Stait will play Michael, a Wraith who was captured by the Atlantis team and transformed into a human by Dr. Beckett’s iratus bug retrovirus in the previous episode “Michael.” The character was first played by Connor Trinneer (Star Trek: Enterprise) in that episode, which will air in the U.S. in early 2006.
“The character Michael was always intended to be a very big part of the season end arc — an idea that was reinforced by how wicked Connor Trinneer is,” writer and co-producer Martin Gero told GateWorld. But due to personal reasons, Trinneer was unable to reprise the role.
“So, instead we got the wonderful Brent Stait (who looks frighteningly like Connor’s Michael once he gets into his full Wraith make-up) to step in and play the slightly reduced Michael role in ‘Allies,'” Gero said.
Stait originally played Stargate Command’s Major Louis Ferretti in the SG-1 series premiere “Children of the Gods,” and returned for the Season One finale “Within the Serpent’s Grasp.” His long list of credits also includes Andromeda (“Rev Bem”), The 4400, The Outer Limits, and “TAKEN.”
Meanwhile, the second season of Stargate Atlantis is progressing well in its last days of post-production. “I just finished watching the first mix of ‘Inferno,’” Gero told GateWorld. “It’s GREAT! Carl [Binder] and Peter [DeLuise] did a really wonderful job with it. Such a fun one-off.”
New episodes of Stargate Atlantis return to The SCI FI Channel in the U.S. on January 6.
