by Livi DolginStargate leading men Ben Browder (
“Cameron Mitchell”) and Joe Flanigan (
“John Sheppard”) recently had the opportunity to fly for real with the Thunderbirds, the Air Force official demonstration team, according to a new article in
TV Zone magazine. On a trip to the Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada just outside of Las Vegas,
Brad Wright,
SG-1 and
Atlantis executive producer and writer, went with Browder and Flanigan. “We went to Las Vegas and Joe and I flew with the Thunderbirds and Brad flew with one of the units stationed at Nellis Air Force Base,” Browder recalled. “So all three of us got to fly in the backseat of an F-16.””The flight itself is an awesome experience,” he said. “It is the E-ticket ride of all times. I loved every second of it, and from the minute we were on final approach I was trying to figure out, ‘How do I get to do this again’ and to this day I’m still trying to figure that out. I went up with Major Scottie Zamzow, and he did each of the maneuvers that he does in his regular routine, including pulling nine G’s and going supersonic. Those are all things that are a once in a lifetime event for most of us, but just another day at work for Scottie. He has the best office in the world.””The Thunderbirds are perhaps the most impressive organization I’ve ever had the honor and privilege to be around and I’m indebted to each one of those folks for allowing me to spend some time with them,” Browder said. “They’re an impressive, enthusiastic, and professional [group of] men and women and an absolute credit to the United States military and the Air Force.”Read more in
