In a recent interview with Sci-Fi Brain, Colin Cunningham (“Major Paul Davis”)offered his view of his recurring character. Because Major Davis is a supporting character on the show, his personal life has never been shown, left instead to audience interpretation and the actor’s own imagination to fill in the Major’s motivations.”I always saw him as kind of a sad guy,” Cunningham said, “not at least a very lonely guy. I didn’t see him as a human being who lived in a big house with a wife and kids. I see him in a one bedroom apartment and his entire life being devoted to his career, being devoted to the gate, to SG-1 and everything that has to do with it.”Many fans have expressed an interest in seeing the character go through the gate. In his 15 episodes over eight years, he’s never been through the shimmering pool of water. “I think he, secretly, he was the kind of guy who had always dreamed of going through the gate,” Cunningham said, “the guy who had dreams of being a part of the SG team, opposed to simply being a mouthpiece of the President.”Of all the episodes, his favorite and scariest was “Foothold” because most of his scenes were with the show’s star and executive producer, Richard Dean Anderson (“Jack O’Neill”).He muses, “It was the first episode I was really doing so much with Richard. … I thought, ‘Oh, God! This is a bit of a trip!'”Has Cunningham been asked to return in Season Ten? “Not as of yet,” he said, “but I know there certainly has been a shuffle behind the camera.”Read the complete inteview at Sci-Fi Brain.
