When asked if he had any stories floating around in his head that he would like to produce, he was tentative with his answer. However, he delved into a story for Stargate Atlantis he would like to tell but will likely never attempt.
“There’s an episode that I want to do but it’s not really a Stargate episode — I feel like it doesn’t really belong,” he told GateWorld. “I’d love to do a Stargate episode that has no jeopardy at all, that is just a Sunday afternoon, essentially. Kind of speaking to that off-duty thing.” GateWorld had previously addressed the lack of personal moments among the characters.
Gero did express that the storytelling would be unique for a Stargate episode, and would be “vignettes about each character in their off time. Basically five short films about each character,” he said. “But I’ll probably never do it, to be honest.”
GateWorld emphasized hope for Martin to take a crack at such an undertaking, as this episode would certainly be different. “Yeah. That’s probably why I won’t do it,” he said.
Gero joined the writing staff during Season One of Stargate Atlantis. He has written, among his favorites, “The Storm” and “The Eye,” “Duet” and “Grace Under Pressure.” Additionally, he has penned one episode for SG-1, “The Powers That Be,” and shares writing credit for the much-anticipated episode “200” for SG-1. His Atlantis stories are some of the most beloved to emerge from the young series so far.
“Brad is more adventurous than any of us with the types of stories that he wants to try and tell,” Gero told GateWorld. “It’s got to feel like a Stargate. It’s got to have that science fiction for a science fiction show. The shows don’t work without a certain amount of jeopardy, I think. So I don’t know. It’s on the shelf.” Martin hinted about this story during his panel at Creation’s 2006 Vancouver Convention, where he entertained fans with his comedic wit and anecdotes from the production office.
