Jim Menard nominated for Leo Award

Nominations for the eighth annual Leo Awards have been announced, with one nomination for Stargate SG-1 and several other for actors who have appeared on the series. The prestigious awards recognize excellence in film and television produced in British Columbia.

Jim Menard, director of photography for Stargate SG-1, is nominated for Best Cinematography In A Dramatic Series for Season Nine’s “Avalon, Part 2.”

Other Stargate-related nominees include:

Colin Cunningham (“Paul Davis”) – Best Guest Performance In A Dramatic Series for The Collector‘s episode “The Media Baron.”

In the same category, Christopher Heyerdahl from Stargate Atlantis (“Halling”) is nominated for Best Guest Performance In A Dramatic Series in The Collector episode “The Alchemist.”

Ian Tracey (the hijacker “Smith” in “Prometheus”) is also nominated in the same category, for The Collector episode “Customer Service Rep.”

Ellie Harvie (“Lindsey Novak,” the hiccuping scientist) – Best Guest Performance In A Dramatic Series, for The Collector‘s episode “The VJ.”

Her competition includes Veena Sood (“Dr. Kelly” in “Stronghold”), nominated for her role in Godiva’s “Flipping Switches.”

Zak Santiago (“Rogelio Duran” in “Evolution, Part 1”) – Best Supporting Actor In A Dramatic Series for Young Blades‘s episode “Enchanted.”

David Winning (director of Atlantis‘s “Childhood’s End”) – Best Direction In A Children’s Program Or Series for the Naturally, Sadie episode “Double Jeopardy.”

And joining Stargate SG-1 for Season Ten, Brenna O’Brien (“Adria” in “Flesh And Blood”) is nominated for her work in Zixx: Level II‘s “Now You See Him.”

The eighth annual Leo Awards ceremony will take place on May 12 and 13, 2006, at the Westin Bayshore Vancouver. The 2006 Leo Awards Film Festival begins April 27 at the Pacific Cinematheque, a not-for-profit charity.

Stargate took home three Leo Awards in last year’s ceremony, including Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series for Amanda Tapping (“Samantha Carter”), Best Visual Effects for Stargate Atlantis, and Best Costume Design for SG-1‘s Christine Mooney. The two shows were nominated for a combined total of 15 awards in 2005.

The Leo Awards are a project of the Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Foundation of British Columbia. Nominations are now online in 11 categories at LeoAwards.com.

Good luck to all the Stargate stars and alumni!
