After the surprise departure of Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor, actor David Tennant (“Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”) steps in as the tenth incarnation of the venerable Doctor. Billie Piper returns as his companion, Rose Tyler.
“We were delighted by the first season’s success in the U.S., and can promise new thrills, new laughs, new heartbreak, and some terrifying new aliens in Season Two,” writer and executive producer Russell T. Davies said.
The new season finished its first run on the BBC in the United Kingdom last month.
The 2-hour U.S. premiere will include “The Christmas Invasion,” Tennant’s first full episode, before moving on to the regular, 13-episode season. Episode titles include:
- “New Earth”
“Tooth and Claw”
“School Reunion”
“The Girl In the Fireplace”
“Rise of the Cybermen”
“The Age of Steel”
“The Idiot’s Lantern”
“The Impossible Planet”
“The Satan Pit”
“Love & Monsters”
“Fear Her”
“Army of Ghosts”
“Doomsday”
The first season of Doctor Who was one of SCI FI’s most successful international or off-network acquisitions ever, averaging 1.5 million viewers each week.
Season Three of the show is now filming in the U.K., and will make its BBC premiere in early 2007.
