Bonus features for SG-1: Complete Series DVDs

Darren @GateWorld Darren |

Just what bonus features are on those extra four discs in the upcoming DVD release of Stargate SG-1: The Complete Series Collection (Region 1 – North America)? The news is in, courtesy of Amazon.com and our friends at TVShowsOnDVD.com.

In addition to all ten seasons (that’s 214 episodes) on 50 discs, we’ll see all of SCI FI Channel’s annual behind-the-scenes specials, never-before-seen video diaries and installments of the SG-1 Directors Series, new featurettes produced specifically for this release, and more:

Disc 51 –

Stargate: The Ark of Truth Promo
    Stargate: Continuum Promo
Stargate SG-1: The Lowdown (Season Seven)
From Stargate to Atlantis: The Lowdown (SG-1 Season Eight & Atlantis Season One)
Behind the Stargate: Secrets Revealed (SG-1 Season Eight & Atlantis Season One)

Disc 52 –

Sci Fi Inside: Stargate SG-1’s 200th Episode (Season Ten)
Behind the Mythology of Stargate SG-1
    Stargate SG-1: True Science

Disc 53 –

    Season Three:

Timeline to the Future Part 1: Legacy of the Gate
Timeline to the Future Part 2: “Secrets of the Gate”
Timeline to the Future Part 3: “Beyond the Gate”

    Season Four:

      SG-1 Video Diary: Teryl Rothery

    Season Five:

Stargate SG-1 Season 5: Gateway to Adventure
      Stargate SG-1: The 100th Episode
SG-1 Video Diary: Don S. Davis

    Season Six:

SG-1 Directors Series: “Smoke and Mirrors”
      SG-1 Directors Series: “The Changeling”
      SG-1 Directors Series: “Memento”
      SG-1 Directors Series: “Prophecy”
SG-1 Video Diary: Richard Dean Anderson, “Paradise Lost”

Disc 54 –

    Season Seven:

      SG-1 Directors Series: “Revisions”
      SG-1 Directors Series: “Heroes”
      SG-1 Directors Series: “Resurrection”
Behind the Scenes: Journey Inside ‘Lost City’
      The Storyboard Process
Bra’tac vs. Ronan: Designing the Fight (“Lost City”)
      Stargate Magic: Inside the Lab
Richard Dean Anderson: “My Life as a Mime”

    Season Eight:

“Beyond the Gate: A Convention Experience with Amanda Tapping”
“Beyond the Gate: A Convention Experience with Michael Shanks”
      SG-1 Directors Series: “Threads”
Profile On: Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie
      The Last Day of Teal’c
      SG-1 Directors Series: “Moebius”
“Stargate SG-1: The Alliance: The Making of The Video Game”

Whew! This is definitely great material for collector’s and completists. Keep in mind that it is a mixture of newly-produced material (notably the two promos for the upcoming SG-1 DVD movies, to be released in 2008), archival material from past seasons that, for whatever reason, didn’t make those DVD releases (Directors Series, video diaries, etc.), and material that fans have seen before but which have never been available to own (SCI FI’s specials).

Timeline to the Future is a 3-part documentary from the show’s earlier years, which MGM failed to finish releasing to the fans. Part 1 appears on the Season Four DVD set; Parts 2 and 3 were never included on future releases.

Most (if not all) of the six SCI FI “lowdown” and “inside” specials on the first two discs run about 44 minutes (the same length as an hour-long episode minus the commercials), and were aired by the U.S. cable broadcaster before the season premiere or mid-season premiere. They generally focus on a behind-the-scenes look at the production of upcoming episodes.

Two specials — Behind the Mythology of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate SG-1: True Science — aired alongside the tenth and final season, and focus on the real-world connections and inspirations behind the show’s mythology and science and technology, respectively.

“Stargate SG-1: The Alliance: The Making of The Video Game” is a peek at the production of the video game in development during the show’s eighth season (the developer was even brought in to create the in-game sequences in the video game themed episode “Avatar”). The Alliance was ultimately cancelled, and should not be confused with the MMO-RPG that is currently in production, Stargate Worlds.

FOX Home Entertainment hasn’t confirmed yet whether the other 50 discs will be identical to the Seasons One through Ten releases, or if they will be reauthored to include any different material. Our current guess is that, more than likely, they will include the same bonus material as the individual season releases — audio commentaries on nearly every episode from Season Four onward, “SG-1 Directors Series” installments, video diaries from the main cast, production photo galleries, and more.

Order the 54-disc collector’s set now at Amazon and support GateWorld! FOX is asking a remarkably low $299.98 for the set, putting each season at $30 without even factoring in these four bonus discs.

The collection will be released on October 9.

(Thanks to Kyle Hanson, Joseph Muniz, and Jumper One for the tip)
