James “BamBam” Bamford, stunt and fight coordinator for Atlantis, was the first to take the stage. As coordinator, he often receives demo video tapes from people looking to get into the stunt business. As a surprise during his Q&A session, James brought with him several videos of people who didn’t make the cut — and gave them out to the first seven people who asked questions.
Kavan Smith (Atlantis‘s “Major Lorne”) also took the stage later in the afternoon, as did Alexis Cruz (“Skaara” in SG-1 and the original “Stargate” feature film). Both actors told behind-the-scenes stories, and Cruz offered rare insights into the making of the original film. When asked who played a better Jack O’Neill — Kurt Russell or Richard Dean Anderson — Cruz diplomatically found a way to dodge the question, much to the delight of fans.
Most attendees’ favorite portion of the night, however, was Creation’s Friday evening cabaret. The cabaret featured a stunt show performed by Bamford and his stunt team, and also included an intentionally late Jason Momoa (Atlantis‘s “Ronon Dex”).
The emotional point of the evening was highlighted by Alexis Cruz, who performed portions of a one-man play. Initially comedic and quite raunchy, the performance first highlighted racial stereotypes. But it also took a serious turn and became a stunning tribute to the unknown number of foreigners who lost their lives in the World Trade Center tragedy.
Even more guests showed up for the Saturday and Sunday portions of the convention, which included stage appearances by Jason Momoa, Gary Jones (“Walter Harriman”), Corin Nemec (“Jonas Quinn”), executive producer Brad Wright, director Martin Wood, and many more.
