“There was a bit of a drought last year,” Nykl admitted to GateWorld regarding the number of episodes in which he appears. Though he did make eleven guest appearances in Season Four, only three were in the back ten. Naturally he feels he has been away.
“Toward the end of the season, I really didn’t have much … So it was nice to be brought back and I really appreciate that from the producers. That they bring me back whenever they can.”
Despite years of experience from which to play, some aspects of the character do not always sink in for Nykl — particularly the accent. “Sometimes it’s just so automatic that I forget that I’m supposed to have an accent as this character,” he said.
“So there’s been times where I’m talking [and they are] rolling and I start to speak and I go ‘Gah!’ So in some ways, it’s almost been harder to remember that I have to speak with an accent, which is the most basic sort of thing.”

Series creators Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper took their hands off the wheel in Season Four of Atlantis to produce the SG-1 DVD movies, leaving Executive Producers Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie in charge of day-to-day operations. With a full season under their belts, and Season Five well on the way, Nykl couldn’t be happier with the results.
“[They have] really been running good seasons,” he said of the producers. “I love the scripts that are coming out. It’s interesting. The character development is really strong and evolving. It’s going in a good direction. I love being here. I love this job.”
