The nomination is for Bridges’ appearance in the Desperate Housewives episode “The Best Thing That Ever Could Have Happened,” as Eli Boggs. His competition includes Steve Martin (30 Rock), John Hamm (30 Rock), Alan Alda (30 Rock), and Justin Timberlake (Saturday Night Live).
Bridges played General Hank Landry in the final two seasons of SG-1, and in the two DVD movies.
Also nominated for this year’s awards is Amanda Tapping’s fantasy series Sanctuary, which has earned its first Emmy nod in the Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series category. The show was nominated for the pilot episode, “Sanctuary For All.”
Competition in this category includes Heroes, Ghost Whisper, Battlestar Galactica and Fringe.
Hosted by Neil Patrick Harris (Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, which also received a nomination), the 2009 Emmy Awards will be broadcast September 20 on CBS in the U.S. Check out the full list of nominations at Emmys.com.

Congrats to Beau and to Sanctuary (and Doctor Horrible)! I'm still a little miffed that SGA didn't get any technical noms and that BSG was yet again snubbed in the acting category (not that there weren't some amazing performances on other sci-fi shows, but it seemed the most likely to be recognized), but it's hardly surprising.
I don't usually watch Desperate Housewives but I did see that episode and Beau was great in it. It was a very touching performance.
Here's hoping he wins it.
