“Gatecon has had an incredible run, and the fans, actors, and studios have been amazingly supportive of us, but we have decided to go out on a high note after our tenth convention,” Richard Pasco, one of Gatecon’s owners, said in a press release.
“With corporate events dominating the convention landscape now more than ever, we have shown that a quality product can be achieved with the right mindset and that quality over quantity is the way forward,” Pasco said.
Gatecon has been holding events in Vancouver and London for a decade now, predating Creation Entertainment’s acquisition of the “official” Stargate convention license from MGM.
Organizers cited financial and personal reasons for the decision to end the series of conventions next year. For full details, check out GateWorld’s exclusive interview this week.
The final event will take place at the Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver, July 8 to 11. A whopping 27 guests have already been announced (mostly from Stargate, but also a few other science fiction favorites), with more hopefully to come. Headliners include actors such as Beau Bridges (“Hank Landry”), Lou Diamond Phillips (“Colonel Telford”), Corin Nemec (“Jonas Quinn”), Cliff Simon (“Baal”), and fan-favorite Teryl Rothery (“Janet Fraiser”).
Check out the full guest list and find out how you can attend at Gatecon.com. Also watch GateWorld this week for more comments directly from the Gatecon organizers on their reasons for closing up shop in 2010.

Shame. Now I'll never be able to attend Gatecon. :(
I think I just cried a little inside. I was hoping to go one day, but will never have the money for 2010. My dream is dead.
there there emma, don't cry. perhaps someday we can hold a convention of our own and invite all SG-stars. :)
Theres a yearly one in the UK if it helps lol
UK is a lot closer, but didn't the article say the one in Vancouver will be the last one? Or do you mean a different conference?
Well in the UK we still have the Chevron Stargate cons: Chevron 7.4 is scheduled for January and Chevron 7.5 is going to be on November of next year I believe.
Oh, then I must try to make it!
The Chevron Cons aren't any cheaper though.
I was only able to go to Lomdon Comic Con this year because it was so cheap.
Really wanted a group photo of me and all the guests at GateCon aswell.
Aye it is really expensive, probably be worth it though lol, always been glad to have a Stargate event in the UK. Only reason i'm not going to Chevron 7.4 is because I currently don't have a car to drive down South.
Is a hell of a lot cheaper at other events such as the one in Glasgow (Downside of that is that they tend to not get as good guests). Did get to meet Robert Picardo at the last one though.
I always wanted to go to the one in Vancouver because of the location as well. But yeah, I will definitely try to get to some others in the UK. But it would have been awesome to go to Gatecon
