Shanks, Huffman return to Smallville

As the DC Comics mythology continues to expand on The CW network series Smallville, so too do the guest spot opportunities for actors within the Stargate family.

In separate reports confirmed by both KryptonSite and Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming ninth season finale of the long-running series will feature the return of two comic book characters from the DC universe:  Dinah Lance (a.k.a. “Black Canary”) and Carter Hall (a.k.a. “Hawkman”), played by Stargate alums Alaina Huffman (“Tamara Johansen”) and Michael Shanks (“Daniel Jackson”), respectively.

Huffman first portrayed the Black Canary in Smallville‘s seventh season as a nemesis of sorts to Oliver Queen’s Green Arrow, played by Justin Hartley.  She returned twice to reprise the role in the eighth season — in the season premiere and finale.  Her appearance next month on the series marks her first return since becoming a series regular on Stargate Universe.

Shanks returns in the role of Hawkman after first appearing in the two-part TV-movie sweeps event “Absolute Justice” this past February.  The double episode has been largely credited as helping in The CW’s decision to renew the veteran series for a tenth year (story).

The season finale, entitled “Salvation,” airs May 14 in the U.S. on The CW network.

  • Well that season finale is shaping up to be badass, just based on characters appearing in it.

  • Being a fan of both Smallville and Stargate, I'm very happy! :) I had a feeling Michael would return, he did spectacular. Can't wait to see Alaina again too!

  • I'm a fan of Smallville though it's sucked non stop for two seasons now. And I'm a fan of Stargate, will probably be a fan of SGU. But SGU has the potential Smallville doesn't, SGU can go universal, while Smallville sucks--- because DC sucks.

  • Great news! Both are fantastic talents. I'm sorry to say I don't follow Smallville--but I tune in to see these SG faces in new roles.

  • have followed all the Smallville season and Stargate seasons and can't wait for more Shanks in there :P

  • Please let there be a JSA spinoff.
