PRESS RELEASE:
Supernatural Drama is Syfy’s Most Female-Skewing Scripted Series Ever
NEW YORK – March 17, 2011 – Syfy is ordering a second season of its new hit drama series Being Human, it was announced today by Mark Stern President of Original Content, Syfy and Co-Head of Original Content, Universal Cable Productions. Since the show’s January 17 launch, premiere episodes of Being Human have averaged 1.8 million viewers making it Syfy’s most successful winter season scripted series launch in 6 years. Also, with women comprising 53% of the total audience for premiere episodes, it is the channel’s most female-skewing scripted series ever.
Through its first nine weeks on Syfy, and including repeat broadcasts, Being Human has been seen by 19.1 million total unique viewers.
“’Being Human’ has proven to be a winner for Syfy on all fronts,” said Stern. “Using the original format as inspiration, showrunners/writers Jeremy Carver and Anna Fricke – along with a superlative team of writers, cast, and production – have created an amazing, compelling series in its own right. We can’t wait to watch Aidan, Josh and Sally continue their struggle to be human in the second season!”
Being Human stars Sam Witwer, Meaghan Rath, Sam Huntington and Mark Pellegrino and is a Muse Entertainment production in association with Zodiak USA. It is based on the acclaimed series, Being Human, created by Toby Whithouse and produced by Touchpaper Television, part of Zodiak Media Group.
In Being Human, leading everyday lives is a lot harder than it looks for three supernatural roommates – vampire Aidan (Witwer), ghost Sally (Rath) and werewolf Josh (Huntington) – who share their secrets and a Boston brownstone. Together they learn that there are fates worse than death and more to life – and the afterlife – than most “normal” humans could ever imagine.
Executive Producers are Michael Prupas (The Kennedys, Pillars of the Earth), Jeremy Carver (Supernatural) and Anna Fricke (Men in Trees, Everwood) who are both writers/showrunners, and Rob Pursey and Toby Whithouse. Irene Litinsky is series Producer and Adam Kane (The Mentalist, Heroes) is Co-Executive Producer.
Zodiak Rights hold worldwide rights to the new series.

Why didn’t you post a story on the ratings of SGU this week?
Well, at least someone watch something this days. Not me, however.
Oliver: The data usually comes available after my bedtime in the U.K. I’ll have a post up soon!
SGU got 0.928 million viewers. It is a new Stargate franchise low on Syfy.
Just what the world needs… More vampire s**t… :(
How can Being Human be a “remake” if the BBC series isn’t over yet? I think its just more appropriate to call it an “alternate version” rather than a “remake.”
well, its obvious that whatever a dumb teenager would find entertaining (and below average iq adults) is what gets the ratings and extra seasons.
Everyone! Witness the slow de-evolution of our planet’s civilizations. Idiocracy here we come
@Browncoat1984 It isn’t even an alternate version,it is the exact copy, with different actors. All the main points,ALL OF THEM are the same,so if you watch the original, nothing really important, crucial in storyline development can surprise you, cause you know it’s coming and what’s worse,EXACTLY how it’s coming…the farse goes on!!
@junebug Maybe, even probably, but for now de-evolution of the US civilisation is extremely evident!
AS evident with the censorship!!
Honestly I have never watched this show, but I do like Tru Blood…I’m sure they are nothing alike.
Don’t worry guys Stargate will live on. It took Star Trek over 10 years to get it’s first film.
Just wondering: what do they mean by “most female-skewing scripted series ever”?
@Lee_Machine No,they are not alike,True Blood is a masterpiece.Although the UK version is quite all right!
@ Jim Have you read Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse novels? I have and enjoyed them immensely. I have watched True Blood for comparison and have found that the show has gone waaaay off the reservation. True the novels are told from the 1st person viewpoint of Sookie, but there were alot of plot developments in the TV series that didn’t exist in the novels, some of which I found sadly over done. @ Lee_Machine Actually, Being Human (US) is almost a point by point rip-off of Being Human (UK). I say almost because the writers of the US version are… Read more »
I don’t buy into the whole Twilight-inspired vampire craze that has taken film and television by storm as of late. That being said however, the original UK Being Human is a FANTASTIC series.
I gave the first two episodes of the US version a shot, but it just feels… inferior. Inferior, and unnecessary.
As Jeremy Carver and Anna Fricke said, they stopped watching the UK version after S1 to strike out new storylines and not be influenced by the original anymore. I’m curious where they will take it after S1.
@Slayme No I haven’t read the novels, but that’s most oftenly the case, novels being better than their tv/movie adaptations.Charlaine Harris is permanently involved with the making of the show and says she is satisfied with it,so I guess she knows what she’s talking about, since she wrote those novels.I love the show, but the reading experience is completely subjective,so I can’t say anything about which will I like better, until I read it and I will. Not yet, though, cause It so happens that I’d started with a tv show,so I don’t wanna influence my viewing of it,cause I have heard what you’re saying.I’ve heard that Bill… Read more »
Although I haven’t watched the last few episodes yet, it was a good show. I’m glad it got renewed as there are very few shows left out there that I like. Never saw the UK version.
@Sylvia I recommend you don’t watch the UK version, before you see the entire US season 1,if you like it,because,it really will spoile every surprise for you.Hopefully in the second season they’ll break away with their own storyline,so then you should see the UK version, cause it’s great!
@ Jim, @ Sylvia
UK version is much better. I think SyFy offered to foot the bill for a new, “original” (rolling eyes here), program in an attempt to cash in on the vampire/werewolf gravy train. How sad is that? They had a new, original series (a new take on Stargate), and they cancelled it.
Also, I take exception to SyFy claiming credit for Sanctuary. Sanctuary has been and still is a SPACE Original Program from episode one. SPACE ordered a fourth season not SyFy. See this article on SPACE’ website. […] http://www.spacecast.com/article/SPACE-Orders-Fourth-Season-of-Original-Production-SANCTUARY […]
That’s a snooze-fest I don’t mind missing.
@Slayme I know I’ve seen Uk version to the end and yes season three is the end.Have you heard about Peter Jackson and the production of Hobit?
If you don’t know, don’t check it out until you see the series to the end, seriously!
Normally I like the British counterparts to US shows more, but for some reason I like the US version of Being Human more then the British.
