Stargate Rewatch: SG-1 Season Two

‘You have already taken the first steps …’

With the start of September the Stargate Rewatch blazes on into Stargate SG-1 Season Two. We’re watching all 17 seasons of Stargate as a massive fan community event — and it’s not too late for you to join!

The Rewatch continues at the reasonable pace of one season each month, or about five episodes per week. Some fans are rapidly watching fast and furious, while others are taking it slow and enjoying one episode every weeknight after work or school. You could also enjoy a mini-marathon of five episodes each weekend. Read more about the Rewatch and how you can participate. Remember to be creative with your Rewatch, and e-mail us or tweet us to let us know what your creative outlet is!

SG-1 Season Two first aired on Showtime in the U.S. in 1998-1999. After delivering a solid first year of storytelling, the time had come to up the ante and to expand on the mythology. SG-1 was exploring the galaxy, making new friends (and enemies) nearly every week … and, for the first time, even traveling through time. Captain Samantha Carter learned first-hand what it meant to play host to a Goa’uld symbiote, and the team discovered a fifth column of Goa’uld fighting against the evil System Lords: the Tok’ra.

Things to watch for:

  • After sending teams through for over a year, General Hammond makes his first trip through the Stargate.
  • Jack hints at a past addiction.
  • Sam’s experience with the Tok’ra Jolinar leaves her with some unique abilities.
  • The second appearance of Teal’c’s wife, Drey’auc, comes with a casting change. (The original actress, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, would go on to co-star on Eureka.)
  • A cast member from the original feature film makes his first SG-1 debut!
  • Colleen Rennison, who plays young Ally in “Bane,” would go on to play Cassandra when the role was recast in Season Five.
  • Jack is put out of commission early on in “Spirits” — done to allow Richard Dean Anderson to take time off for the birth of his daughter.
  • Before this season is over, the big-bad for the first half of Season Three will be introduced.

So post your thoughts on your blog, on Twitter (hastag: #SGRewatch), Facebook, or over at GateWorld Forum. Write a new piece of fanfic to go along with what you’re watching, create a new piece of art, chat it up on your podcast — whatever your creative outlet is! • My wife and I started a little early (mid July) but we are already halfway through season 5! We both had a few weeks off work with not much else to do though. It's my second time through and her first. She loves it, but she keeps asking me when Jack and Sam are going to hook up.

  • Drey’auc's (apostrophe murder, I know) casting change ALWAYS through me through a loop. The first time we saw her was such a powerful scene--watching over the implantation ritual--that her casting change always felt like an entertainment crime to me.

It would be similar to saying RDA is no longer Jack O'Neil, and Dani Devito will be taking over the role. Both are funny men, but you can't just do that!

  • omg the comment above had me picturing both faces in my mind for a second and, and, and... I've just realized I've been watching the first Drey'auc for some months now in Eureka, I just had a lol moment :))
I *knew* Allison looked familiar from *somewhere*, haha
(I wish I had a better memory for faces)

  • My favorite Sam moment from Season two has to be From the Tokra Part II when she tells her father that far from turning down the chance to be an astronaut in favor of Deep Space radar telemetry - she has and does travel to other planets!

  • Per SyFy schedule, there are zero, none, nada eps of SG-1 or SGA being televised at least in the Pacific timezone through ALL of October! Anyone know why? Anyone think @craigengler, @syfy needs to hear from those upset by this call?

  • @dtheories - 2 things. 1 - it's pretty early to tell what will be on in 'all of October' when September is only half over. 2 - The new television season is starting. It's logical that Syfy would want to distance itself a bit from Stargate at least for a little while. They did cancel SGU and if repeats of Stargate started doing well, it would be problematic for them. So I'd be surprised if Stargate didn't air at all for an entire month being that Syfy doesn't have that much to use for filler, I would think it would probably remain on at very off-peak times for at least a few months.

  • Hope you're right! Schedule's going through Oct 28 for everything else, but stops in September, even off peak airings, for SG-1 and SGA. Fingers crossed cause I do look forward to those!

  • They don't have a lot of content. If they cut out Stargate all together long-term then it would likely be a pure spite move which would be unusual. Though not unheard of.

  • SG1 214 episodes on This finale and then encores...SG1 has been airing weekly in sequence on MGM's This( http://www.thistv.com/) Broadcast network in the US for almost 2 years . 2 epsiodes are on Sunday night 9PM ET.The last 2 of the series airs this Sunday, 9/18/11, and they will encore the whole series(10 seasons, 214 episodes) again over the next 2 years beginning the following Sunday, 8/25/11, With Children of the Gods Part 1 and Part2. Tonight Friday 8/16, This wil broadcast Stargate: Continuum and Ark of Truth starting at 8PM ET, and repeat them again right afterward.
