If you aren’t watching Travelers on Netflix yet, now is a great time to get on board this thought-provoking science fiction thriller.
Netflix announced today that it has renewed Travelers for a third season, set to steam straight into production in Vancouver this month. The show is created and executive produced by Brad Wright, who previously co-created all three Stargate television series.
Canadian broadcaster Showcase appears to be bowing out for Season Three, leaving Travelers a Netflix original worldwide. In the U.S. and elsewhere the first two, 12-episode seasons are now streaming.
Eric McCormack (Will & Grace) stars in the series as F.B.I. Special Agent Grant MacLaren, who leads a team of people whose conscious minds have been sent back in time from a dystopian future.
In addition to plenty of familiar faces from the Vancouver film scene (including recurring guest star Teryl Rothery — Stargate’s Dr. Janet Fraiser), Stargate Universe‘s Patrick Gilmore (Dale Volker) co-stars.
“I am so excited to be able to tell our fans, worldwide, that Brad Wright’s subtle and stunning sci-fi drama is back for a third season,” McCormack announced. “I am so proud of this show, particularly that it’s all-Canadian. From our devoted Vancouver crew, to an uber-talented young cast who hail from Alberta, BC, Manitoba and Ontario, to my producing partners and our Toronto roots, Travelers is a series as Canadian in its creation, as it is global in scope.McCormack will also step behind the camera to direct the show’s third season opener.
“I am counting the days ’til I return, not just as Special Agent Grant MacLaren, and as a producer, but as the director of the third season premiere,” he said. “Travelers will continue to be unwavering in its dedication to Canadian talent, and in its drive to be one of the strongest, most binged shows on Netflix.”
“Our partner Eric said it best,” Wright and fellow executive producer Carrie Mudd added. “We’d like to add our gratitude to our viewers in Canada on Showcase — as well as the Corus and Sky Vision teams — for two extraordinary seasons. We are excited to start shooting Season 3 this March in Vancouver, and to continue the Travelers story for fans in Canada and around the world, only on Netflix.”
No release window has been announced yet, but the first two seasons each landed on Netflix in late December.
