We continue this week celebrating the life and work of actor Carmen Argenziano, who passed away last weekend. Carmen played Jacob Carter — one of Stargate SG-1‘s most beloved and frequent recurring characters — from Season Two’s “Secrets” through Season Eight’s “Threads.”
I met Carmen face-to-face just one time: when I interviewed him at the 2007 Stargate convention in Vancouver, B.C. (Photo Gallery), hosted by Creation Entertainment. Carmen was a class-act: friendly, approachable, and down-to-earth. And in our short chat he was insightful about his craft, and about the interplay between his acting work and his outlook on life.
“It was a wonderful experience,” he said of his time on the series. “It was a fantasy. It was a wonderful fantasy, and a wonderful character.
“It was a revelation to me. I mean, acting ultimately is revealing. You find out, you discover more about you, and more about the potential of life and what we can do with our lives. And Jacob / Selmak gave that to me.”
We’re bringing this interview back around to share with you again after 12 years — remastered with a brand new introduction. It’s the first time at GateWorld we’ve ever done anything approaching “reruns,” and I hope you find it a worthwhile trip down memory lane.
The video below starts with a 3-minute retrospective, and then segues into the original audio interview (originally published as “Father Figure” in 2007, where you can find a full transcript).
One more bit of news for fans of Carmen Argenziano: GateWorld has recently uncovered a lost interview with the actor. This 40-minute conversation was conducted on stage at the TimeGate convention in Atlanta back in 2010. It’s a long-form conversation between Carmen and GateWorld’s David Read (now of “Dialing Home” on Stargate Command).
We are now working to bring this lost interview to you in the near future!
Very nice interview. Thanks!
Carmen has ascended to the next plain of existence. Thanks for 7 great years
Rest in peace Jacob & Selmak!
