The biggest Stargate fan collaboration yet is set for this Saturday, as GateWorld joins in a special livestream event celebrating Stargate — and featuring SG-1, Atlantis, and SGU co-creator Brad Wright.
“Stargate Celebration” will stream live (and free) on Saturday, October 14, starting at 11 a.m. PT (2 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. in the U.K.). Hosted by our friends at The Companion, the event will feature GateWorld’s Darren Sumner along with “Dial the Gate” host David Read and the teams at SciTrek and the podcast “3 Fries Short.”
Beyond his 15 years working on Stargate, Wright’s career also includes The Outer Limits, Neon Rider, and Travelers.
If the technical gremlins are zatted in time, the ambitious livestream event will go out simultaneously on all five groups’ YouTube channels. Sign up now for a reminder by subscribing to GateWorld’s YouTube channel and enabling notifications.
The full event will run about 90 minutes, and will be available to watch on demand after it’s over.
With fans eagerly awaiting news about the future of Stargate from its new owners, this month marks the 29th anniversary of the original Stargate feature film, which hit theaters in October 1994. Stargate SG-1 followed in July 1997. And while we’re doing math … carry the 4 … GateWorld launched 24 years ago, in October of 1999.
What do you want to hear from Brad? Post your question below and it might be asked on Saturday! Join the conversation on social media using the hashtag #StargateCelebration.
Is this tied in anyway to the Amazon announcement on the same day….
Nope, and we have no idea if there will be anything Stargate-related at Amazon’s Prime Video panel at NYCC.
I did request that we schedule this one so that it’s over before the NYCC panel begins … and any potential news might start breaking!
What I’d like to hear Brad talk about:
His opinion on what Stargate needs, at a creative level or story-wise, to be successful in the context of a return under the Amazon ownership, the context of streaming being king, and the changed landscape since Stargate first began airing in 1997.
What would he tell a potential next show runner? What he would tell to the franchise owners? Maybe what he thinks Stargate needs to do to keep itself fresh or renew itself? Does he still believe the “here and now” is the secret ingredient even under the new paradigm?
Thanks @Darren for asking my question. I’m honored.
Thank you, jeremfg! I hope I distilled it OK in the final 60 seconds I had with Brad. I thought his response was really great, and important to get out there on the record … especially if we end up with a new show announced from new creatives that is set in the future.
@Darren Yes! That’s precisely why I felt that question was important and worth asking. I found it funny how you phrased it saying “is there room for a TNG-like”… Because to me, the here & now would necessarily be a TNG-like situation considering that almost 15 years have passed since Stargate went of the air. Time has passed. Story-wise, you could already write almost anything you like. So much can have happened in the meantime. That’s also why SGU had the perfect ending imho. You could always write they’ve been asleep 15 years if you wished to do a direct… Read more »
My question… can we have just one Stargate Atlantis movie?.. something like “They find out that Michael wasn’t really killed, it was his clone that was killed. And Michael now has Torin and is dominating the Pegasus galaxy. John and Teyla get the crew back together and plan to fly Atlantis back to the Pegasus galaxy to save all that’s left of the people. The fun kicker is that Rodney has a son who acts and looks like him. Rodney insists his son comes along and of course John and Teyla agree… anyway it’s the beginning of a great adventure… Read more »
I’ll be watching this, but it will be a bittersweet experience I think.
An interview with the person who sacrificed 15 years of his life making Stargate the success that it is/was, while being completely given the cold shoulder by the new owners, and this maybe even on the same day where they make an anouncement about a new Stargate during comic-con NY.
Yeah, not exactly showing your human qualities there Amazon.
What about Stargate universe?
What Stargate series does Brad prefer? I love Stargate Atlantis (probably cause of Todd) and it became a comfort show. I really like the relationships between the characters, they’re like a family. Hi from Italy.
