Lieutenant and member of SG-5. Barber visited P4X-347 with the rest of his team and Dr. Daniel Jackson and was exposed to its dangerous light emitter for a substantial period of time.

Lt. Barber returned to Earth and had been waiting for the completion of a translation from 347. Within 48 hours he became so overwhelmed with depression as a result of his exposure to the alien device that he committed suicide by rushing into the unstable energy vortex of the Stargate.
