Briefing: Easy to digest Stargate news bytes

Darren @GateWorld Darren |

No pontifications from the editors this week. We’re whimpering in the corner over the delay of “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess” and the XBox 360’s sticker price.

Instead, here’s an extra-hearty edition of the latest Stargate news!

  • Stargate script coordinator Alex Levine has updated his blog at SciFi.com, recapping tonight’s all-new episodes. “I don’t want to ruin [‘Beachhead’],” he said, “so all I will say is that it’s a pivotal episode about the Ori, with huge jeopardy for Earth … And it sort of sets the stage, character-wise, for this season and for … dare I say it … next season?”
  • Namco has launched its teaser site for Stargate SG-1: The Alliance, despite the fact that the game remains in legal limbo. Since the site bears the marks of both developer Perception and publisher JoWooD — and was likely in development before the public fall-out between the two earlier this month — don’t take this as confirmation that Namco is still publishing the title, despite numerous speculative reports to the contrary. We’ll confirm when solid info is available.
  • TVShowsonDVD.com has published the first full-sized look at the box art for Stargate SG-1 Season Eight on DVD (Region 1 – North America). The 5-disc set is in stores October 4, and you can preorder now at Amazon.com and support GateWorld!
  • Torri Higginson (“Elizabeth Weir”) will participate in the Motion Picture Industry Charitable Alliance’s eighth annual charity auction, “Lights, Camera, Auction — Take 8!” The event will take place October 21 to 23, 2005, in Los Angeles.
  • The5thRace.net has published an interview with Viljar Sommerbakk, Stargate SG-1: The Alliance lead designer at Perception.
  • The cast of Stargate Atlantis is on the cover of Cult Times #120 (shipping this week), which includes an interview with David Hewlett (“Rodney McKay”). “The more you see of McKay the more you realize, yes, he’s incredibly arrogant, but he’s also incredibly daring, and there are other facets to the guy as well,” Hewlett said. “Last year my character was put in situations where he got to be a hero, a villain, a space explorer, etc., and that’s something we’ll be doing more of this season.”
  • RDA and baby seals! Richard Dean Anderson (“Jack O’Neill”), Legends Memorabilia, and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society have kicked off the “Signed and Sealed” charity autograph project to raise funds to assist Sea Shepherd in their efforts to stop the slaughter of Canadian seals.
  • Chris Judge (“Teal’c”) is interviewed in the new issue of SFX Magazine (#134).
  • This month’s TV Zone (#192) includes an interview with SG-1‘s Ben Browder (“Cameron Mitchell”), who also appears in fine form on the cover.
  • The September issue of Starburst magazine (#327) includes reviews of SG-1‘s ninth season and Atlantis‘s second season.
  • Las Vegas Business Press has published a lengthy article on last week’s very big Creation convention in their fair city. The article covers the business end of sci-fi and fan conventions, and gives some attention to Stargate‘s Teryl Rothery (“Janet Fraiser”).
