For weeks Stargate SG-1‘s producers have been hinting that a number of dearly departed characters will make return appearances later in the show’s ninth season. Now SG1-Spoilergate is reporting that actress Teryl Rothery has been filming for her return as Dr. Janet Fraiser.

The episode in which Fraiser returns may be “Ripple Effect,” though this has not yet been confirmed. Rothery’s character will appear in flashbacks in the episode, according to the report, and — much to the chagrin of many fans — will not be resurrected.

“Back to work on Tuesday when ‘Ripple Effect’ resumes shooting and that much-loved, sorely missed character (or two) make their return to SG-1,” executive producer Joseph Mallozzi cryptically wrote at his blog last week. “It’s a fun episode with plenty of complications, twists, humor, and mini-revelations,” he added in a message at GateWorld Forum. “All of our main characters have something to do and have their opportunity to shine. It will be an episode that fans, both new and old, will enjoy.”

While the plot of the episode remains a mystery, we do know that it will deal with a Stargate-related issue, and that it will introduce Kvasir, a new Asgard character.

Fraiser, a character loved by fans since her first appearance in the series’ fourth episode, was memorably killed off in the Season Seven episode “Heroes, Part 2.”
