In addition, the producers of Stargate SG-1 may be hoping to add a new full-time cast member.
Tapping reportedly told fans that she spoke to SG-1 executive producer Robert Cooper after learning about the show’s renewal, and about the fact that each of her co-stars had been approached about returning for Season Ten. Actress Claudia Black (“Vala Mal Doran”) has also been approached about signing on, she said. Tapping asked if there was a problem, to which he replied, “No problem — we just don’t know what to do with Sam next season.”
Tapping was informed that she would be guaranteed a full 20 episodes next season, and that these will likely be split in some fashion between SG-1 and its spin-off series, Stargate Atlantis, fans reported. Her contract currently remains unsigned.
The actress made a small cameo appearance in the Atlantis Season One episode “Letters From Pegasus,” and returns this season to guest star in “Grace Under Pressure.”
Meanwhile, Tapping, who was reportedly light-hearted about things when she spoke with fans, also reported that she has been offered and is considering a leading role on another Canadian series, titled Whistler. The new series is described by its producers as “an action-packed ride through the politics, especially the personal ones, of a high-end resort town, where family and interpersonal pressures are ready to blow. … It’s The O.C. meets Twin Peaks.”
Please remember that what we’ve heard on this breaking story so far is second- and third-hand information, and that Tapping’s final status for SG-1‘s tenth and Atlantis‘s third season is not yet confirmed. Until then, treat it as you would any rumor.
If it comes to pass, it would certainly make the Stargate franchise one of television’s most fluid in terms of sharing cast members and storylines between two different series. GateWorld will report on further developments as they happen!
