The big surprise was that Richard Dean Anderson (Jack O’Neill) presented the award to Ben Browder, whose character Lt. Colonel Cameron Mitchell won the award for Favorite New TV Character. In an attempt to top last year’s endless acceptance speech from his swimming pool, Anderson submitted a original short film, “My Breakfast with Spacey,” which aired in segments throughout the length of the broadcast. (RDAnderson.com has the clip available for download.)
Rachell Lutrell (Teyla Emmagan) and David Hewlett (Rodney McKay) presented the nominations.
Battlestar Galactica beat Stargate SG-1 by a nose for Favorite TV show.
Canada’s SPACE: The Imagination Station presents the annual awards to honor the best in sci-fi and fantasy entertainment. They deliberately avoide the traditional award ceremony format, instead, sending out camera crews around the country and the world to present the awards — a bust of a silver alien suspiciously resembling a “Roswell Grey” (or, to Stargate fans, Thor). The winners are filmed in their homes or another unusual and casual environment.
The Spaceys offered seven “Favorite” categories for online viewers for voting. A panel of producers chose the other awards.
