Can the universe handle more than one Rodney McKay? It may be the plot of an upcoming episode of Stargate Atlantis, series co-star David Hewlett hinted in an interview with GateWorld.
“We’ve definitely got some interesting McKay stuff coming up,” Hewlett said. “I’m a little hazy on the details. There’s talk of sisters. There’s talk of possible multiple McKays. Something else which I’m interested to see. Apparently there’s a Rod and a Rodney, which is interesting.”
Actress Amanda Tapping recently confirmed in an interview with TV Guide that there will indeed be an alternate universe McKay in an upcoming episode — and that her character, Samantha Carter, is responsible for bringing him here (story).
The episode may even be the anticipated September 8 episode “McKay and Mrs. Miller,” based on the photos from the episode released by the studio. The episode’s plot, aside from Rodney’s reconnecting with his sister, is a mystery — but the photos show a very “cool”-looking McKay in a leather jacket and styled hair, as well as Rodney in his traditional look.
Tapping will make a cross-over appearance in this episode.
“We’ll see what happens with this second Rodney thing,” Hewlett told GateWorld. “Because it sounds like that guy’s got it right. He sounds like the James Bond of McKays … which actually makes me quite nervous, because I know how to act like the Rodney that we know and love. I’m not sure how good at ‘cool’ I’ll be.
“I’m hoping some kind of a wig. I think that would probably solve it.”
Watch for GateWorld’s complete interview with David Hewlett later today! New episodes of Stargate Atlantis are currently airing every Friday at 10 p.m. Eastern/Pacific on SCI FI Channel in the United States.
