New SGU character breakdowns: Senator Walker and I.O.A. rep

Beware of minor SPOILERS for the premiere of Stargate Universe in the report below.

Following September’s announcement of the main characters for Stargate Universe (story), our friends over at SpoilerTV have just posted two brand new character breakdowns for the pilot episode: Senator Walker and Camille Wray, a representative of the International Oversight Advisory. Here’s how casting calls are describing these characters:

SENATOR WALKER
Male. 50s. 60s. Distinguished Senator who is the political oversight to this Stargate project trying to dial the ninth chevron. Also the proud loving father of Chloe Walker, his daughter and political aid. GUEST STAR, 2 EPISODE ARC. PLEASE SUBMIT ALL ETHNICITIES. STAR NAMES ONLY.

CAMILLE WRAY
30-50. An accountant with the international oversight body that governs the Stargate program. Now the highest ranking member of that body left stranded on the ship, she has a false sense of importance and superiority to the other military and civilian population along with a stubborn way of asserting it. GUEST STAR, POSSIBLY RECURRING, PLEASE SUBMIT ALL ETHNICITIES.

Senator Walker is the father of Chloe Walker (formerly Carpenter), one of the show’s main characters. Based on what we know so far, it looks like she accompanies him in an official capacity as he inspects an off-world base run by Earth. After the base is attacked, they and everyone else must evacuate through the Stargate to the Ancient ship Destiny.

Authority on board the Destiny becomes an immediate issue, as military commander Colonel Everett Young and project head Dr. David Rush (Robert Carlyle) clash over who should be calling the shots. Based on the info above it looks like the I.O.A.’s Camille Wray will be making sure her opinion is heard, as well.

Check out the original report at SpoilerTV, and keep up-to-date on the new Stargate spin-off in GateWorld’s exclusive Stargate Universe Launch Center! The show will premiere this summer on the SCI FI Channel in the United States.

  • Two very interesting characters! Look forward to seeing them...!

...Heck! I'm just looking forward to seeing everything about "Stargate: Universe"! It's shaping up very nicely!

  • A few questions about Universe, hopefully someone can answer them.

Unlike Voyager or Lost in Space, which had to travel throughout the universe to reach Earth, can't the people that are "trapped" on the Destiny just use a Stargate to return home to the SGC? The information released so far says that they are forced to abandon an off-world base, not the one on Earth.

What stops them from just dialing back home? Is it a lack of power like it was with Atlantis on the first season?

  • This two sound like very promising characters. Every piece of news about Universe is adding to my excitement about it.

  • Michael I think that the main problem is that they are on a ship that keeps jumping around the galaxy and as you know you can't dial a stargate unless you are near a planet and know your point of origin. Also probably dosen't have much power left after floating around all that time.

  • atlantis15: Except, that's not quite right either. In Enemy at the Gate, Atlantis was able quite quickly to recalibrate it's DHD to function basically "in the middle of nowhere" and thus regain contact with Earth.

From the sound of these 2 characters, the show is suddenly getting a whole lot more interesting.

  • This is starting to sound like Battlestar Galactice now with the character of Camille Wray in place of Baltar *rolls eyes* This show is still not gaining my interest even with Robert Carlyle in it :-(

  • I'm curious to see who the recurring enemy on the show will be.

Will they be connected to the ones that initially attack the base, or someone else altogether?

It might make sense to connect them, but it be weird for the same enemy to be in both locations, unless they are able to move between galaxies much faster than the SG team will be on the Destiny.

It would be cool if the enemies possessed the technology that the SG team needs to return home.
