Bridges talks Universe, new SG-1 movie

Beau Bridges (General Hank Landry) has enjoyed his time working on the SG-1 series and films, and would be open to doing more!

“I enjoyed doing [Stargate]. I did that for two, three years, maybe almost four years with the movies that I did,” he told MovieWeb.com. “It was a good experience and I wouldn’t mind at all going back and doing some more.”

According to reports, Brad Wright has received approval from MGM to write a script for the third SG-1 feature, which according to Michael Shanks, is “pretty O’Neill-heavy.” Shanks has been approached to appear as Dr. Daniel Jackson in the film (story), but this interview indicates that Bridges has not been presented with an offer yet.

“I haven’t talked directly with those guys for awhile, but I know they have a new show coming out called Stargate Universe. They’ve got a complete new cast, but there has been talk, just rumors, that maybe they’ll have some of the Stargate SG-1 cast back, but I don’t know.”

The third SG-1 movie is still in the early pre-production phases, so it is still possible that Bridges has yet to get the call.

  • There will probably be a scene or two set on Earth at the beginning of SGU, so it's entirely possible that General Landry will be seen in the SGC.

  • There is sure to be a big kerfuffle at the SGC when they find out what's happened (in SGU). It would make sense for them to run a plan by Landry before implementing a rescue attempt. (Which will fail, of course, but it would be weird if they didn't try.)
In terms of the third movie, we didn't always see Hammond, sometimes they just talked about what he said about a given mission. If there is something for Landry to do, then I would expect him to be in the script. Otherwise, I imagine he will be left out until such time as there is a good reason to bring him bace, as Vala was.

  • I doubt Landry would find his way onboard the Destiny as a recurring character for them... But I for one am generally disappointed at any revisit of Stargate Command that has its commanding officer conveniently absent. Like with the Atlantis finale (spoiler warning)... While it was good to see Carter and all... something like a wraith hive-ship attacking earth... well every other alien ship that got into orbit was handled by SG-1. Maybe SG-1, sans Carter, were on that super-secret mission the Odyssey was on, but still...

If Landry, or any SG-1/Atlantis cast, are to have any recurring appearances on Universe, its going to be from their respective roles at SGC or Atlantis. When SG-1/Atlantis aired together, I was always pleased at them being able to maintain continuity that way.

  • He said he didn't talk to the guys directly for a while, but he's well informed about the SGU series, and the 3rd movie, and as he said he would not mind coming back.So maby he will do a cameo in Atlantis who knows,But it would be nice if we would see some of the Atlantis cast back now and then. And maby it is possible they ask him for the 3rd Stargate Sg-1 movie wich is in pre -production. He said he would not mind coming back so that's and asnwer.

  • May contain spoiler info for SG1 season 10 so beware. This is a 'What if' scenario.

Now picture this, The SGC was losing it's funding and time passes on. We don't want it to but they have a new story now, a new direction and Destiny is off world, not on terra firma. But would't it be great if the new Stargate movie starts with the passage of time. SGC has been downsized, all have gone their separate ways. O'Neill finally retires, Landry stops by to play chess now and then and maybe even catch fish. Daniel finally gets to spend some quality time in the Pegasus galaxy with the ever bored Vala in tow whom he now seems to have more tolerance for, which in turn allows him to see her as real friendship material.(Remember he doesn't have Teal'c 50 year head start on insight). Carter and Mitchell have new commands and Teal'c assume leadership of the high council. Then what if something came back from the past that only SG1 could fix but which required something from the future. O'Neill holds the key, Landry holds the command, Carter and Mitchells team lends their support but have their own troubles. Teal'c and Daniel are lost and Vala comes back alone. The military moves on and new leaders emerge.Young, smart, able. The enemy is not Goa'uld, replicator, Ori or even wraith. The best enemy is one you don't recognise as enemy at all but something benign.

O'Neill's experience and unique insight cannot be replaced or discounted. He is the ever popular constant that made the show what it was.
Apologies for long post. Fans eh!!!
