Dr. Nicholas Rush and Chloe suffer nightmares following their ordeal on the alien vessel, and Rush suspects that a tracking device may have been placed on the ship’s hull. Later, a splinter group on Destiny executes a coup with life-threatening consequences.

From Sky1:

Both Dr. Nicholas Rush and Chloe are plagued by nightmares following their imprisonment on the alien ship. Rush is worried that a tracking device may be hidden somewhere aboard the Destiny. Suspecting he may be right, Col. Young and Lt. Scott conduct a search of the ship’s hull.

  • It sounds like a episode about conflict climax. That's not scifi that's drama focused. So might be not my thing. But may be they surprise me.

  • SciFi shows often contain drama-elements. Stargate is also know for including comedy-elements. I'm hard-pressed to come up with an example of a show that was all scifi, without any other element included. Stories need some form of conflict... doesnt have to be highly dramatic, though any conflict is drama. We also have elements of mystery, action, and romance in this show...occasionally some horroresque elements... so all around its Sci-Fi in that we're watching a bunch of people who traveled through a wormhole to live aboard a spaceship flying far far from home. That's the premise that makes it a scifi show. The other elements are what make individual episodes an engaging story (although opinions will certainly differ on how successful the writers are on engaging the audience with their drama and mystery and action and comedy and such).

SGU is more character-drama focused though than previous incarnations of Stargate, so thats why we'll continue to see lots of drama elements within the SciFi setting.

  • @Stryse, I think emphasis is significantly higher on the drama than sci-fi... Take Grey's Anatomy for example: it's a character drama show that takes place in a hospital; sure, we see the hospital, "surgeries" etc., but it's still a character drama and not a hospital/health show. We need a LOT more of the details and quirky explanations and action that normally comes with sci-fi shows to balance things out for us in Universe (imo of course:)

As per the episode, I imagine this will also have the scene we saw on the S1 second half trailer where the Colonel says "she's in charge now". So Rush probably allows the shuttle to dock while keeping the rest of the military 'locked out' as the Colonel 'surrenders'. Not sure how they will stretch that over an hour but I guess we'll find out soon enough!

  • Here's hoping the military deals with this silly uprising with harsh and decisive action.

  • I know the episode hasn’t aired yet, and I really have been trying to give the show a fair chance, but I can’t help but think this sort of episode is five seasons too soon.

This is a pretty big clash. The line is drawn and being on a space ship you have no choice but to be on one side of that line and really I can only see a few outcomes.

    1. One side is totally decimated and is either wiped out (unlikely), subdued (possible) or left on a rock and the story splits in two similar to what season one of BSG was like with the focus being on the fleet and then helio on caprica (not as likely).

    2. The civies (which appear to be the aggressors) plan back fires and their lives become real hell either with marshal law being imposed or something equally bad. If the writers really want to stick to the (edgy) storyline this is a likely outcome.

    3. Both sides in the end have a new respect for each other, no one of importance is hurt or killed and they all hold hands and sing sounds. If this is the outcome it pretty much destroys the whole premise and the show wont make it to another season as the cheese factor will be far to high.

Another possibility is that this may be the episode that the destiny crew basicly decides that they are on their own and stop listening to the people on earth and their hair brained plans, but I doubt that the writers would let such a source of drama really go.

In any case I really hope this episode plays it smart, I get the feeling it is going to decide for a lot of people if they will continue watching.

  • Cant wait till the episode is aired. Hope no one gets killed in the conflict. I don't wnat that kind of Drama.

  • So saw the episode - and I'm finally dropping out along with my friends.

The irony is that this episode I think is emblematic of why Stargate Universe was a mistake the moment it went live. 'Divided' is exactly what Stargate Universe has done to fans and critics - fracturing what once was a fairly unifying franchise.

As usual, solid dramatic performances mixed with cutting edge technical aspects (effects, sets, and makeup) demolished by hamfisted writing and poor conceptualization. The significant differences between this show and the prior two would be forgivable if Universe still fit the meme of the Stargate franchise; which it does not.

I wouldn't trust these characters to lead me out of a paper bag. I certainly don't think they would have been selected by the IOA and the Pentagon to be anywhere near super top secret like the Stargate - especially Young/Greer/Scott each of whom seem incapable of thinking in terms outside of the most brazen stereotypes of military officers and enlistees. So already the illusion and the connection to the characters is strained: how does one sympathize with inherently unsympathetic characters? I choose not to any longer.

I hope that this post is not deleted, though I understand why the site runners might do so: my criticism is couched in what appears to be anti-Universe hyperbole. But I promise you it is not.

I had pledged to give the new style of Stargate a full season. After tonight, I doubt I'll ever watch Stargate again in any iteration, including the DVDs I've already purchased. It isn't entertaining to watch Lord of the Flies once a week... one read-through was all I needed.

  • I loved this episode and I think the second half is shaping up pretty fantastically so far! Keep it up guys!
