Syfy Channel has announced the premiere date for Brian J. Smith‘s Syfy original movie debut, Red Faction: Origins (story). Based on the hit THQ video game series, Origins will premiere on Saturday, June 4 at 9 p.m. (8 Central) — less than a week after the May 31 release of the new game Red Faction Armageddon.
Smith plays the lead character of Jake Mason, a 22nd century soldier who must fight off an alien threat and reunite his separated family.
Robert Patrick (The X-Files) co-stars as Mason’s father, and Battlestar Galactica‘s Kate Vernon as the Matriarch, the leader of a tribal sect. Patrick is also a veteran of Stargate, having played Colonel Marshall Sumner in the pilot episode of Stargate Atlantis.
Smith plays Lt. Matthew Scott on Stargate Universe, which has just three episodes left! SGU airs Mondays at 9/8c on Syfy.

I’m a huge “mars buff” and I loved the first game all those years ago and the words “alien invasion” and “tribal sect chieftain” have me slightly worried. I would’ve thought the premise of a miner that plays a leading role in a hard scifi story of mars colonization and rebelion of it’s populace against an oppresive corporate government be movie gold…
