One of Destiny‘s crew members is headed to the next big drama on the Syfy Channel. Actor Brian J. Smith will guest star in an episode of Defiance, which premieres in April.
Smith played Lt. Matthew Scott for two years on Stargate Universe.
On Defiance he will play Gordon McClintock, “a NASA hero from the pre-Arkfall days who was presumed dead following a space station catastrophe in 2013,” according to a network press release. “The astronaut is discovered to still be alive when he is revived from an induced sleep, and is overcome with shock and disbelief at the dangerous new world of Defiance.”
The series is set in the near future after an alien ark crashes on Earth, leaving the planet transformed and turning it into a new home to a number of alien species. The frontier town of Defiance sits on the remains of old St. Louis.
The series is currently filming in Toronto, and stars Grant Bowler, Julie Benz, Stephanie Leonidas, Tony Curran, Jaime Murray, Graham Greene, and Mia Kirshner. Also on the guest list is frequent Stargate guest star Dion Johnstone (story).
Kevin Murphy (Caprica) is executive producing with Michael Taylor (Battlestar Galactica). Bear McCreary (BSG, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) will score.
Since SGU ended in 2011 Smith has returned to the stage and also appeared on Syfy’s Warehouse 13. He did a turn in a recurring role on Gossip Girl, and starred in the Syfy original movie Red Faction: Origins.
He will also guest star as “Ricky” on The Good Wife on Sunday, November 4 on CBS.

Finally, they are making a science fiction show rather than cancelling it. I don’t know how well the game will fare for them though.
