Michael Shanks is back on the small screen next month with Mr. Hockey: The Gordie Howe Story, an original movie on Hallmark Channel. The network has released a new teaser spot, behind-the-scenes video, and posters!
As a native Canadian and amateur hockey player, Shanks (Stargate‘s Daniel Jackson) describes the project as a “dream role” for him. He was the first choice for the title role in the film directed by Stargate‘s Andy Mikita.
The story focuses on the later career of an aging Gordie Howe, who put his hard-earned reputation on the line to return to professional hockey at the age of 45, in order to play alongside his two sons.
Mr. Hockey will air Saturday, May 4 at 9/8c, and then be released on DVD a few days later. It will be a Wal-Mart exclusive starting May 7 and then expand elsewhere on July 9, according to DTV USA.
If you can hold out till July, you can pre-order the DVD from Amazon and support GateWorld with your purchase!
The 30-second teaser is below. See more with the cast and crew in the three-and-a-half-minute behind-the-scenes video at HallmarkChannel.com.

This was an interesting trailer. Michael Shanks is a very good actor and it looks like the movie revolves around him without any script needed. Also a nice family movie, which is lacking from a lot of TV nowadays!
For Canadian viewers, “Mr. Hockey” will be airing earlier, on April 28th at 8pm on the CBC.
