Episode of the Week: ‘Holiday’

SG-1 discovers an elderly man known for developing technology to fight the Goa’uld. Daniel is tricked into switching bodies with the man, Ma’chello, who believes he is “owed” for all the good he has done.

“Holiday” Facts:

• Long-time Stargate fans will know just who it is playing the role of Ma’chello underneath prosthetics: it’s none other than Michael Shanks (“Daniel Jackson”) himself!
• After they swap bodies Teal’c tells Colonel O’Neill, “If I am to remain in this body … I must shave my head.” It’s a hint at what may be a religious observance among the Jaffa — which Teal’c would later abandon when he grew his hair in Season Eight.
• We’ve seen Teal’c meditate throughout the series, but in this episode he states that without the practice of kelnorim his body will die. (This was no longer the case in later seasons, after his larval symbiote was replaced by the drug tretonin.
• Ma’chello’s many inventions to fight the Goa’uld would be revisited very soon, in the early third season episode “Legacy.”
