Episode of the Week: ‘Point of View’

SG-1 must free an alternate reality Earth from a Goa’uld invasion after duplicates of Samantha Carter and Charles Kawalsky come through the quantum mirror.

“Point of View” Facts:

• As the episode opens the camera pans past the collection of alien artifacts in Area 51 storage. See if you can spot the virtual reality chairs from Season Two’s “The Gamekeeper” — which would be pulled out and retrofitted in “Avatar” in another five years.
• It’s in this episode that the common Goa’uld word “kree” is officially defined: It can mean “attention,” “listen up,” “concentrate” … or “yoo-hoo!”
• Actor Jay Acovone returns in “Point of View” for one of his guest appearances after his character — feature film original Charlie Kawalsky — was killed in the second episode of the TV series. But after this he wouldn’t return for more than five years, for his final appearance: in the eighth season finale “Moebius.”
• This is one of the only episodes co-written by series co-creators Jonathan Glassner and Brad Wright.
• Unfortunately for fans of parallel universe stories, General Hammond orders the quantum mirror destroyed at the end of the episode. But it wouldn’t stop cross-dimensional travel entirely: a Stargate “malfunction” brings dozens of different versions of SG-1 to our S.G.C. in the ninth season episode “Ripple Effect.”
