Episode of the Week: ‘Last Stand’

SG-1: Season Five
First Aired: March 29, 2002

Dr. Jackson’s undercover mission to a Goa’uld summit is complicated by the arrival of a surprise guest. Meanwhile, the rest of the team is buried under the surface of the Tok’ra homeworld after a Goa’uld attack.

“Last Stand” Facts:

  • The scene with the System Lords feasting on their fellow Goa’uld symbiotes took over an hour to shoot. The actors couldn’t actually consume the rather unappealing props they kept biting into … so two props people would rush in with buckets every time director Martin Wood called “Cut!”
  • The cargo ship that Daniel and Jacob crash in the episode will come in handy just a few episodes later: It’s the one SG-1 manages to repair in order to save the Earth from an asteroid attack sent by Anubis (“Fail Safe”).
  • The ending of “Last Stand” is left deliberately ambiguous: Jaffa foot soldiers are closing in on Lt. Elliott, who secretly conceals symbiote poison capable of killing them all. The plan was to use it at the Stargate, to clear a way home for SG-1. Writer Joseph Mallozzi, however, later said that Elliott was taken to Zipacna’s ship and used it there.

The Goa’uld (played by Kevin Durand) was never seen or mentioned again on the show, though his death was never established (nor even implied) in on-screen canon.

  • In spite of Elliott’s presumed death, it’s not the last we’ll see of actor Courtenay J. Stevens. He returned to play Keras in the Stargate Atlantis episode “Childhood’s End.”

  • I really liked watching Osiris in this episode. ALP did an awesome job in this episode. I always thought that the system lords need to learn from history and experience. Yu knew what was up and how Anubis really was and that's why he said no. Look what happens.
