Gero and Gall Working on The L.A. Complex Reboot

Stargate’s Martin Gero is seeing one of his shows come back from the television graveyard. The flashy, critically-acclaimed soap opera The L.A. Complex ran for two seasons on The CW and Canada’s CTV. Now it’s being rebooted at The CW.

The L.A. Complex aired through 2012, with a total of 19 episodes. The series showcased a collection of struggling artists who live in a low-rent commune (The Lux), cutting their teeth to make it in the giant machine of Los Angeles.

After failing to spark with general audiences during its initial, single-year run in 2012 — The L.A. Complex is getting a shot at redemption. Deadline reports that a reboot series (focusing on the same artist commune, but populated with fresh characters) is in development at Warner Brothers Television and The CW.

Gero and his writing partner Brendan Gall will script the new series. Gall also served as a writer and producer on The L.A. Complex‘s original run.

A seasoned Stargate alum, Gero originally got his break as a staff writer and producer on Stargate Atlantis. Among his Stargate episodes are fan favorites such as “Duet”, “Sunday,” “First Strike,” “Adrift,” “Be All My Sins Remember’d,” and “The Lost Tribe.”

After leaving the Atlantis writers room in 2008 (following the show’s cancellation) Gero wrote for the HBO comedy drama Bored to Death.

In 2015 Gero created NBC’s action thriller Blindspot — which begins its fourth season later this month. An immediate hit, Blindspot follows the life of highly-trained secret agent Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) and her quest to discover how and why she turned up in Times Square naked with no memory of who she is. Gero also serves as the series’ showrunner.

In other recent news Gero and Gall also just landed a pilot commitment for their brand new series The Secret to a Good Marriage  — the story of “an elite pair of spies who fight to save the world in the wake of their fractured marriage.”

The original L.A. Complex starred Jonathan Patrick Moore, Joe Dinicol, Cassie Steele, Andra Fuller, Kristopher Turner, and Jordan Johnson-Hinds. It also starred Stargate Atlantis‘ Jewel Staite in the roll of the single mother and aspiring actress, “Raquel.”

Gero hinted on Twitter today that Raquel is still living at The Lux — meaning that Staite might have a role to play on the rebooted series.

“I can’t wait for you guys to see what we have planned for this thing,” Gero tweeted. “BEYOND excited to return to this world with characters old and new. Thank you @TheCW!”

An air date and casting announcement for the reboot has yet to be released. Stay tuned to GateWorld as we learn more about The L.A. Complex‘s return.
