The next installment in the massively successful God of War video game franchise has just been announced — and yes, Stargate’s Christopher Judge is once again starring.
Sony and developer Santa Monica Studio announced God of War: Ragnarok for the PlayStation 5 at today’s showcase event for the next-gen gaming console. The 1-minute teaser video includes the title and a 2021 release window.
Judge plays Kratos, the game’s lead character. He can be heard narrating the teaser released with today’s announcement. “The time draws near,” he says. “You must prepare yourself.”
Judge’s performance in the series includes not only voice acting but also motion capture. He really threw himself into the part, and his work on set and behind the scenes can be seen in this 2-hour documentary on the making of the game.
Sony today also announced pricing and the release date for its next-generation hardware, which will be Ragnarok‘s exclusive home. The PlayStation 5 launches on November 12, at $499 for the regular system and $400 for an all-digital model without a disc drive.
God of War (2018) rebooted the franchise to great acclaim, selling more than 10 million units and winning Game of the Year at the 2018 Game Awards, the SXSW Gaming Awards, the 15th British Academy Games Awards, and more.
On Stargate SG-1 Judge played the Jaffa warrior “Teal’c” for ten seasons.
