The Stargate SG-1 Roleplaying Game Kickstarter campaign has a go!

Wyvern Gaming today announced that the long-awaited Kickstarter will launch on October 6, 2020 (beginning at 2:00 p.m. UTC, which is 10:00 a.m. U.S. Eastern time, 7 a.m. Pacific).

The game saw its digital premiere at Gen Con 2020, held online earlier this summer. The Kickstarter will enable fans to show support for the upcoming physical edition, including the Core Rulebook. Wyvern also announced that the product release, previously set for Gen Con 2021, will now take place at Wonder Con in April.

In the new Stargate Roleplaying Game, players will explore the galaxy and aid in the fight against the Goa’uld System Lords. The core rulebook will contain all the information needed to create a character and join the Stargate Command (SGC). Players will choose from a set of playable races and classes as they learn the skills, feats, equipment, and technologies needed to make their character thrive as an SG team member as they complete Stargate Missions. The book also covers being a Gatemaster (GM). With the players, GMs steer the story and the non-player characters that interact with the player characters. Players may be asked to capture a point of interest, explore new worlds, retrieve important artifacts, rescue important VIPs, or capture high-value targets.

Meanwhile public playtesting and fine-tuning of the game will continue through the Kickstarter. Wyvern is asking fans to sign up and play for free at StargateTheRPG.com, and offer feedback.

“As fans of the Stargate franchise, we want to make the best Stargate Roleplaying game possible,” Wyvern CEO Brad Ellis said. “That is why it is important for us to include the fans in the development process with Kickstarter as the feedback engine. It is a game for the fans, so it is critical that we get their input in its development.”

In addition to development on the Core Rulebook, Wyvern has launched the ongoing “Stargate: Phoenix” living campaign. Set during the sixth season of Stargate SG-1, a set of “episodes” published online will allow players to play through an entire “season” of an original story. The game’s inaugural season will culminate in the final episode, released during Gen Con 2021 next summer.
