Actor Kirby Morrow, Stargate’s Daedalus Bridge Officer, Dies At 47

Vancouver actor and Stargate family member Kirby Morrow passed away yesterday at the age of 47, his family announced today.

Morrow played Captain Dave Kleinman, weapons officer on the bridge of the U.S.S. Daedalus, in a recurring role on Stargate Atlantis. The character also made the leap to Stargate Universe in 2009, appearing on board the U.S.S. George Hammond in “Incursion, Part 1.”

Prior to his eight credited appearances on Atlantis, Morrow also had a pair of smaller roles on Stargate SG-1. He appeared as a militia man in the first-season episode “Cor’ai,” and played a Jaffa in Season Five’s “The Warrior.”

GateWorld talked with Kirby about his work on Stargate in 2009, with a very fun conversation at Creation’s Stargate convention in Vancouver. You can find that conversation below.

Kirby’s brother Casey posted the news on social media, saying that the family does not yet have further details. He wrote: “Kirby was a blessed and talented individual who brought joy to so many but also thrived off all your love and friendship. He lived for it and it fueled him every day.”

Born in Alberta, Canada, in 1973, Morrow trained at the Mount Royal University in Calgary. In his acting career Morrow tallied nearly 200 credits, according to IMDb, including extensive voicework for animation. He voiced Cyclops in X-Men: Evolution, Goku in Dragon Ball Z, Miroku in the anime series Inuyasha, and Michaelangelo in Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation. He played Tony Stark in the mini-series Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk and Eternals, and Hot Shot in Transformers: Cybertron. And he had recurring live-action roles on Supergirl and Legion.

He also provided the voice of Cole (and several other characters) in the LEGO Ninjago TV series.

Behind the camera, Kirby wrote and directed the 2005 short The Boxing Day Classic. He was also a regular convention-goer, enjoying the chance to meet his fans in person. Because of his extensive work in animation he is especially beloved among the Dragon Ball, Marvel, anime, and TMNT fan communities.

Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to Kirby’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

  • I finally know what its like to be one of those people who is hung up over the loss of a celebrity. It's... not great. I had friends meet Kirby Morrow, but I was never quite lucky enough.
My love to his family. What an unexpected heartbreak.

  • Oh my god, never knew he did the voice of hotshot. I loved watching that growing up and he was my favourite character. Knew him best from Stargate though. Am very sad he has passed

  • he just agreed to do the sequel of inuyasha and literally did the first episode. At least he was able to do Miroku one last time in the new series before he went. Rest in peace. u created my childhood.

  • My condolences to Kirby's family and friends. I'll miss your wonderful voice as Miroku, Goku as well as Michelangelo ect. I'll always remember you for you always put a smile on my face as I watched InuYasha or any other anime. I'm beyond devistated as I know Yashahime is currently arring..Lots of love ♥

  • TBH I am feeling sadder about this than I was when Stan Lee died, Stan was very old and he had lived a very full life while this guy wasn't old and he had a lot ahead of him. I have no words, I am a huge fan of Gundam and X-men.

  • Condolences to his family and friends.
    Kirby was so talented.
Thanks for sharing the interview with him Gateworld.
