The team at The Companion had so much fun reuniting Stargate cast members last fall that they’re getting the band back together. And, once again, the script in front of them will be bonkers.
The Companion has announced “Version 2.0” of the Stargate A.I. project — a table reading of a script written by artificial intelligence. Joining in the mayhem this time is former Stargate SG-1 leading man Richard Dean Anderson, who will give voice to Jack O’Neill for the first time in nearly a decade (since the 2013 release of the mobile game Stargate SG-1: Unleashed).
He’ll be joined by two of his former co-stars, Michael Shanks (“Daniel Jackson”) and Amanda Tapping (“Samantha Carter”). The event will be pre-recorded, with a streaming premiere event exclusive to The Companion subscribers this May.
Also joining the actors once again will be Brad Wright — co-creator of Stargate SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe — and Laurence Moroney, Lead A.I. Advocate at Google (and also a big fan of Stargate). Moroney has spearheaded the project to design and implement a series of A.I.s, feeding them the full catalog of Stargate episode scripts in order to train the system how to produce dialogue and stage directions.
The first Stargate A.I. event was a hoot to behold, with Shanks and Tapping joined by their Stargate Atlantis counterparts David Hewlett (“Rodney McKay”) and Jewel Staite (“Jennifer Keller”). Anderson also sent in a short video message to say hello to the old gang, which you can see at the start of this special highlights reel:
Other announced events coming up on The Companion include a livestream Q&A with Michael Shanks in April, and Paul McGillion’s (“Carson Beckett”) guest appearance on the podcast “Gaters Gonna Rate” — hosted by former Stargate writer and producer Joseph Mallozzi. That one is scheduled for this summer.
