Now There Are Stargate NFTs

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer is joining the blockchain, wading into the world of digital collectibles with Stargate.

The first Stargate NFTs will be available for purchase starting Saturday, March 2 (at 8 a.m. Pacific time), featuring three digital items based on the original 1994 Stargate feature film. The debut collection includes the Stargate itself, and Ra’s guards Horus and Anubis.

These are 3D models, which can be viewed in a smartphone app that includes an augmented reality feature.

The officially licensed collectibles come from VeVe, which uses blockchain technology to limit the number of each digital item available. That means some items will be more rare, and collectors are able to sell and trade digital items.

The Stargate will be the most common item in the initial drop, with 1,997 units available. The “ultra rare” Horus Guard will have 797 units, and the “secret rare” Anubis is limited to just 297 units.

The three Stargate items will be available for purchase as a blind box beginning March 2 — so customers won’t know which item they have until the purchase is complete. VeVe also maintains a marketplace for collectors to sell and trade. Each blind box will sell at a list price of 35 “Gems” — VeVe’s in-app currency — or $35.00 USD.

VeVe was founded in 2018 and has sold more than 10 million digital collectibles to date. The company also distributes licensed collectibles for everything from Disney, Marvel, and DC to Star Wars, Star Trek, Jurassic Park, Back to the Future, and Ghostbusters. The new MGM license also includes the Robocop franchise.
