After discovering that the Supreme Goa’uld System Lord Ra possessed a Zero Point Module — the invaluable Ancient power source — in Egypt 5,000 years ago, SG-1 embarked on a mission to take the time ship back in time and steal it. But their presence was discovered, trapping them in the past and altering everything that we know. In an alternate present-day, different versions of Daniel Jackson and Samantha Carter are called upon when the time ship is found in an archaeological excavation.
As the second half of the two-parter begins, the alternate team has found the Stargate and learned about our SG-1’s failed mission into the past. Sam and Daniel protest being sent home and, when the alternate Jack O’Neill arrives and learns he can pilot the ship, convince General Hammond that they need to be on the team that goes off-world — to a planet called “Chulak.”
With the alternate timeline’s Major Charles Kawalsky (Jay Acovone) and other men, the alternate SG-1 lands on the planet and heads out on foot. They are quickly captured by Apophis’s Jaffa forces, including his First Prime — Teal’c. The team wakes up in a prison cell, and Daniel has little success explaining the whole alternate timeline thing to the Jaffa.
Dr. Jackson is brought before Apophis and tortured. Back in the cell, the rest of the team considers what they will do if their reality’s Teal’c doesn’t switch sides. But the warrior is convinced, and helps SG-1 escape. They retrieve Daniel and flee through the woods back to the time ship, but not without casualties.
Under heavy fire from Apophis’s Death Gliders, the only way to escape is by activating the time device. They shoot 5,000 years into the past and go through the gate to Earth — to find Ra’s great pyramid ship atop a pyramid in ancient Egypt. The alternate SG-1 talks to the locals and soon learns that the Egyptians know them already — our SG-1 was here only five years ago, and tried unsuccessfully to fight a rebellion against Ra. Only our Daniel has survived.
The team stops to consider the massive mess that has been made of time, and what they can do to correct it. Ra must be overthrown and kicked off Earth so that he leaves the Stargate behind, as he was in the original timeline … at any cost.
